Cahal Dunne to Perform Solo and with ChoirPlay in FOSSPL FUNdraiser
Wednesday • March 1
Suncoast Technical College Conference Center and Gallery
Popular Irish entertainer Cahal Dunne and ChoirPlay, his mixed-voice chorus, will be the featured entertainment Wednesday, March 1, in a Friends of Shannon Staub Public Library fundraiser. “It’s not your Granny’s choir,” says Dunne. “Our playlist includes Doris Day’s ‘EveryBody Loves a Lover,’ a Queen medley, ‘Africa,’ ‘Stand by Me,’ a beautiful new piece ‘Wanting Memories,’ a Mamas and Papas selection, and others.”
Pre-show activities for this limited-seating event begin at noon with opportunities for the audience to shop in the Friends bookstore (FriendShop) and in the Gallery to view a large selection of themed gift baskets and other prizes assembled by Friends members. They will be awarded in a donation drawing at the end of the performance.
The two-part Dunne/ChoirPlay show begins at 1:30.
Each $20 admission ticket is worth $1.00 toward purchasing items in the FriendShop which will be open throughout the event. The shop features gently-used bookstore items at better-than-bargain prices. Also available for $10 will be FOSSPL notecard sets, cookbooks, FriendShop gift cards, and the opportunity to sign up for FOSSPL membership.
While light refreshments will be provided during the program, attendees should have lunch beforehand in the college culinary arts restaurant, the Bistro, which will be serving great food at reasonable prices from 11:00 to 1:00.
Members of Friends of Shannon Staub Library, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit entity, work to ensure an exciting, worthwhile, and sustainable library that engages the community by providing financial support for library programs serving patrons of all ages.
This fundraiser will take place in the Suncoast Technical College Conference Center and Gallery. Entry is through the Shannon Staub Library and through the college’s north entrance. The STC North Port campus is located off I-75, exit 179, at Toledo Blade and Cranberry boulevards.

Mr. Dunne is the nephew of the former Prime Minister of Ireland, Jack Lynch. In l974, he received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University College of Cork and had several hits in Europe. CahaI started a band in Ireland in 1977, and against all the odds they made it. They won the equivalent of American Idol in 1979 with his own song “Happy Man.” It was his first number one hit, but they were always fighting the recession, dance halls closing up, etc. so Cahal had two choices: go back to teaching or emigrate, so Cahal emigrated. He’s glad he did and enjoys playing and singing more than ever all over the U.S.
